Toby Klein - Jewelry Artisan
Like a real Kaleidoscope, Toby's art is created with a burst of color, symmetry of design and motion all captured in "The Artists Kaleidoscopic World". Her goal in creating work is to intrigue each person by drawing their eye into the piece of art, while holding it there so they may see all of the intricate detail. In developing her style, she has always been intrigued by different and unusual pieces of art and has worked to do the same in her creations. She is a kiln formed glass & mixed media artist, whose work is contemporary and ranges from different degrees of abstraction and experimental to representation. Her images both representational and non-objective show the use of color, design & techniques as seen through the artist eyes.
Always being intrigued by the natural vibrancy of glass and the beautiful reflections it creates, Toby took her first class from a well-known artist in kiln formed glass 20 years ago and was hooked with the way the glass transformed after firing it in the kiln. Toby, traditionally know as a mixed media artist, in 2020 her career evolved as she began to create larger pieces of glass. As she continued to learn, Toby used the same techniques for her kiln formed glass, to refine her glass jewelry. She creates her original designs, most of the time using iridescent and dichroic glass which has the wonderful shimmering of colors Toby loves in her jewelry. As you walk around & view these pieces, you’ll notice how the colors begin to change, which is a characteristic of the dichroic glass.
You will notice that many times Toby will return to her roots of collaging by the inclusion of sterling silver leaf or foil in her jewelry. She overlaps many small pieces of glass with abstract shapes to create rich hues, design & dimension. Toby may even add smaller pieces to the top of her main piece of glass, add gold or platinum luster or intertwining pieces of copper and silver wire to the complete each piece. With all of these techniques, Toby’s jewelry shows her love of color, depth & texture.
Toby’s goal in creating her work is to intrigue each person by drawing their eye into the piece of art, while holding it there, so they can see all of the intricate detail.
