Requirements for the Standard’s Review

1)    The Initial Review

The chairperson will review the images of the artist’s work and contact the artist if there are any questions regarding the work and the requested materials. If the chairperson has any reservations, the committee will be requested to review the submitted materials. If there are no further questions, payment has been made, and all the application materials have been received by the Standards Chair, a time will be arranged for the artist to present at the next Standards Committee meeting. All the application materials will be forwarded to the specific members of the Standards Committee who will be at that meeting. A broad variety of Standards Committee members will be present and, if possible, a master ACG artist in each specific medium.

The committee will meet at the Homewood Public Library one Sunday afternoon in April and July for any ACG member wishing to apply to become an exhibiting member or for a current exhibiting member to apply in a new category. The deadline for Standard’s application and all submitted materials for the April meeting is March 31 and for July, the deadline is July 12.

2)    Presentation to the Standards Committee

A specific time will be preassigned to the artisan for an in-person presentation to the committee.

The applying artists are asked to:

A)   Bring five current examples of their work to the meeting that reflect the level of creativity and expertise and should best represent the work the artist intends to present at any ACG exhibition, show, or other event.

B)   Be prepared to give a brief explanation of the process and background. The standards committee members will ask questions to understand the work better.

C)   Each of the five submitted pieces will be shared and reviewed by the committee members with the artist present. Then, the artist will be asked to leave the room for about 10-15 minutes.

During this time the Committee members will reexamine the work, have discussion, and complete the judging forms. The form places each juror on the same judging level, qualifies the judging, and avoids subjective opinions.

D)   The artist will then be asked to reenter the room and collect their work after the voting has taken place.

3)    Notification

The scores the artist received from all jurors present are tallied to determine acceptance or rejection. The artist is informed in writing by follow-up email from the Standards Chair of the decision of the Committee within one week of the meeting and will include constructive feedback from the committee members. Artists exhibiting small weaknesses in their work may be invited back in writing to the next Standards meeting, to submit their pieces with those areas improved for reevaluation. Artists whose work was not accepted may re-apply in the next calendar year.
